EEA grants

The EFTA EEA countries Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein have made financial contributions - EEA and Norway grants - to economic and social cohision in the EU since 1994. The contributions support development projects concerning environment protection, health and children, NGOs, eureopean cultural heritage, research and education, Schengen-measures and local administration. Only project partners in recipient countries can apply for funds, but projects can have partners also from the donor countries.

From 2009-2013 the total contributions amounted to 1.8 billions €.

Negotiations between the Commission and the EFTA EEA countries about the period 2014-2020 started in January 2014.
